BACKDROPS TO OMBAK RINDU THE MOVIE

There are queries as to the location of the film 'Ombak Rindu' which has hit the movie houses and now entertaining the home audiences through the TV. Ombak Rindu is not the only movie that has been shot on the island of Langkawi. Anna and the King of Siam was one and Sharook Khan has also chosen to make his film in Langkawi too. Sometimes we failed to recognize the location as being Langkawi because the directors or producers failed to advertise its where about or hide its true identity.

Ombak Rindu with its director being from Langkawi itself helped to promote the beauty of the island. The sea, landscape, the beaches with their rocks, the typical Malay homes and yachts that roam the legendary island all added to its majestic splendor. Not to mention the hills and padi fields and the soothing music plus the breeze that beat the beaches and the padi stalks in the fields all helped to move the film towards its romantic mood. A close up of the old railway station in Alor Setar when the actress and her uncle took the train to Kuala Lumpur added antiquity as well. But one noticed that the train was moving northwards rather southwards to Kuala Lumpur.  Cameron Highland with the Boh Tea plantation added to the richness of the hero's background while showing that Malaysia does have color and beauty of all dimensions.

Please see the following as being parts of the scenes that are located in the film or a similarity  that one can easily seek out. It is a discovery that surely will bring more visitors to the island. I am from Kedah and the scenes and locations of the film are no strangers to those who know the state and the island in particular..

The Railway Station at Alor Setar. Notice the Clock Tower

One of the houses featured in the film

Langkawi has many scenes like this, with fishing boats       basking in the hot sun on blue waters

The Boh tea house in the Cameron Highlands

Another scene in the Cameron Highlands

No such scenes in the movie but they make authentic scenes any time

For your last posting in 1911 you chose to write about backdrops to certain films and beautiful scenes. I wonder how you have access to those beautiful shots relevant to your subjects.

To be honest 'Ombak Rindu' is Greek to me. That goes to show how much, or little, interest I give to film these days. Of course the mention of just King of Siam brings lots of memories.

So that is how it is . In less than 24 hours, insya Allah, we will see the light of another year. To you and family I pray all is well, that tomorrow is another beautiful day.

Sdr Al Manar,

Thank you. Kalau ada Astro sekarang boleh menonton film tanpa keluar dari rumah. Ombak Rindu kini dapat diaccess pd Siaran astro 483 dg harga Rm15 untuk 2 hari.No need to find a parking slot etc.Kebetulan gambar2 yang berkenaan diambil semasa kami dilangkawi dahulu dan pernah ke rumah yg disewa khas untuk penggambaran itu. To add injury perhaps both the houses in the film are owned by foreigners who have settled in Langkawi. At least they built Malay homes. Of Cameron Highland we were at the tea house also a few yr back. Hari ini dan esok nampaknya ada khenduri untuk dihadiri. Salam and a good year ahead.

Assalamualaikum dan Selamat Tahun Baru.

It is Greek to me too :) And I missed Langkawi so. And I have scenes of Langkawi that people could not believe it was Langkawi.

Mualaikum Salam.

Good to see you return to Kotastar. Pretty sure of the great ocean and sky shots you have of the island and its surroundings. You must return to Langkawi as it will soon move on with new developments. Get a chance to see the movie if you can spare 2 hrs of yr weekend time. Familiarity with the scenes pushes me to comment on the movie and it is great to see bloggers all curious to know the backdrops to the movie. Chance to promote the island. A great new Year to you.

Nice post and gorgeous photos! I've watched Ombak Rindu and admit there were moments (eyebrows crunched, LOL) wondering, "Langkawi ke ni?" Lucky for us in Kedah to have such a nice island we can go back to bila2 senang, cuma sekarang agak busy. Should one of these days take my boys back for another visit.
